Symptoms
Rosacea varies widely among individuals. Diagnosis is usually based on specific signs:
Key Diagnostic Signs:
Persistent Redness: Ongoing facial redness resembling a blush or sunburn that doesn’t fade.
Skin Thickening: In some cases, especially on the nose (rhinophyma), skin thickens and enlarges.
Major Signs (at least two needed for diagnosis):
Flushing: Frequent episodes of facial redness with warmth or burning sensations.
Bumps and Pimples: Red bumps or pus-filled pimples without blackheads, often accompanied by stinging or burning.
Visible Blood Vessels: Small, noticeable blood vessels on cheeks, nose, or central face areas.
Eye Symptoms: Watery, red, or irritated eyes, sometimes with swollen eyelids and crusting, known as ocular rosacea.
Other Possible Symptoms:
Burning or stinging sensations.
Facial swelling or raised red patches.
Dry, rough, or scaly skin despite oily skin complaints.
Occasionally, symptoms may extend beyond the face to the neck, chest, scalp, or ears.
